It might be a bit strange to have an "About" page on a website that is already about me, but it is a pretty standard practice to have these pages. So what I'll do is make a mix of website background and page index to get you started with learning more about me.
I started my site over 27 years ago in 1998 while a physics undergrad at LSU. I realized one day that the only thing stopping me from making my own website was that I didn't know HTML yet. I figured it couldn't be that hard to learn. I called it the "Worldwide Center for the Study of Leif" (WCSL for short) and began creating a fictional organization whose sole purpose was documenting my life. I made WCSL departments for physics, music, art, geography, computer science, history, human ecology, and literature as a way to organize the things I wanted to post online.
Eventually, the website no longer represented me, so I created a new PHP framework based on pages, templates, and page blocks. I made it lightweight and flexible so I would have some room to develop site content without worrying about implementation, whether the content is plain old HTML or PHP. (Oh, my original attempt used XSL, but I abandoned that when I realized search engines weren't indexing my pages.) I changed my site structure and content to focus on the things I currently enjoy: plants, travel, food, and recording music. I've kept only the old content that still amuses me, like News and Java apps.
Here is a list of the activities and events I've been involved with or attended since late 2010.
Every now and then, I notice that somebody posts a link to my site. Here are the ones I've caught so far.
